Default need an np205 guru..

ok. so it looks like i blew my rear end.

rear is a locked D70 and looks like my tone ring came off and chewed up the pinion. heres where i need some help, i know i can just pull out the rear shaft and run in 4hi (i have to get to work no questions asked) but is there a way i can move the shift rails in my np205 to just disable the rear? or do i need the twin stick conversion to do that? i have a parts 205 so i will grind those rails tomorrow after work and start the conversion. but i was hoping theres a way to get me by tomorrow.. this thing sounds and runs pretty bad nissing a pinion tooth.

Look where your linkages bolt on.

Take your linkages off.

Move the rail closest to the rear output to the full out position. That will give you Front Output High.

Move the other rail to a spot in between the detents...that will give you Rear Output Neutral.

With only two detents on the rails the neutral position will float, and may slide one way or the other while driving and you'll hear it grind. You can disassemble the transfer case rails and modify the detent notches ala twin stick conversion Step 11 or so.....lots of work for what you want to do @ this point.

Best thing to do is like DieselCrawler said---to just pull the rear driveshaft and the axle shafts out of the rear differential for the time being, and leave the transfer case in 4-Hi. That will disable the ring & pinion from turning.

OK,

I did pull out my rear driveshaft I remembered it was easier to do than I was thinking, my issue is I was running on very little sleep and bumping the shift rails seemed like an easy thing to do. I'm gonna grind the rails on my other one and get it all set to go in for future use.

Thanks for the help guys! i'm gonna close this.
