Default Help! My automatic transmission is stuck in first gear, no upshifting!

I have a 1999 Dodge 250 5.9 l automatic with 60,000 miles. the transmission is stuck in first gear and no upshifting. Is this a easy fix? Or a complete overhaul? I haven't towed anything, don't use 4 wheel drive yet, so far babied it and it has had just leisure driving. Should this have happened with so little miles? Any help is appreciated.

Are you sure its stuck in 1st and not 3rd. Typically the transmission limp mode is direct drive and lock up and od will not work, and the transmission will not downshift. If this is the case then you could have a small problem like a transmission power relay or fuse blown, transmission power wire short to ground or open circuit, PCM could be corrupted, there are several possibilities.

Speed sensor goin out will cause it to stick in first gear. Simple fix, I'd start there.

This is a 24V I'm guessin? Has an electric speed sensor on the output shaft? If that ain't workin, the trans will stick in 1st gear. Simple fix.
