Default Thought it was the starter but...

Guys,

Its the 2002 Dodge Starter thing again, or well, it is? Just all of a sudden today the truck would not start, yet, loads of power (voltage), good batteries, fuel pressure and power at the FASS, gauges all work, lights etc.

Push the clutch in and nothing, notta nope, zilch... So, I though great, starter, I beat on it a bit, no change. I went home got some electrical tools because I figured it was power related and tested all the odds and sods under the knee panel.

I fiddled with the clutch sensor, the wiring to the gauges, checked to make sure nothing was freyed or grounding out and then I wanted to see if I could get power to the starter, so I had my wife climb in, stand on the clutch and try to start the truck, no clicking or anything like that, and I placed my test light on the small wire going to the starter and the frame and damn, I jumped, the truck starter right away and when you are not expecting it, that's really loud.

The truck has been on and off now for 5 or 6 times and it always starts. Is this the starter or is it the clutch sensor or is it something else?

Confused...

Thanks in advance.

I would double check for continuity on the clutch safety switch. Because you get no click or anything it should be the safety switch or a relay. My starter was the original (to my knowledge) in my 1999 at 230000 miles it went forever they are tough the only thing that made me replace it was excessive "end play" and rubbed the ring gear slightly during the 13' clutch conversion . Have you installed the hydraulic clutch upgrade? I noticed that when I did mine the safety switch sometimes doesn't make contact. It is really depending on how far the push rod is adjusted.Let us know what you find out.

Ok, well sounds like what it is. No upgrades to this system - it is all stock in that department.

What does an upgrade cost? What about the sensor? Should I be concerned?

Cheers,
