A friend of mine borrowed his brothers truck a 2000 PSD 7.3 and now at an idle it has a rattle that I can only describe as rocks in a metal fan. we took off the belts and it still does it. I was thinking mabe low oil psi. the sticker said about 3000 miles over for the oil and filter. the noise is comming from where the filter housing is. is that mabe the HPOP??? it makes the same sound in gear or nutural. any ideas ??? mabe UVCG?? it has also had an issue where under WOT it would blow the boost tube connecters off/apart.

 

I know the exact sound you're talking about. Three guys I know have similar trucks that do it. I don't know what makes the noise. On the bright side. They have all put upwards of 100,000 miles on their trucks without any problems. That doesn't make it right and I would be interested in finding it out. I know it's not the pulleys, injectors, turbo or exhaust.

 

got a shop that said the converter (toque) is comming appart. and another said TQ nuts loose.so we will se I guess. I will let you guys know when I find out.

 

well problum solved. it had a broken flex plate. not just cracked.it had spun part of the way around. this can be closed. thanks all for the help.
