Default Tachometer that stops and starts

I have an 02 with an automatic transmission (5.9). The tach works on and off when ever I start and drive my truck. There isn't a pattern when the tach will do this. I had a code of P1693. Any idea's? Possible loose wire, is the computor going out?

I want to say the crank position sensor is going out. The P1693 is a companion code, meaning another code set.
