well i was going threw my pictures last night and saw that when i rebuilt it i had to leave one piston out becuase i broke the rings. i ordered new rings from cummins with the same part number this is the pic with the missing piston. i will do a compression and leak down test on it saterday just for kicks. what i dont understand is why it smells like such strong diesel, i know if i pit the piston in backwards it would run worse and i know i would have cought it. maybe the rings from cummins dont match the rings from RF engine that i ordered

Ah yes, but I believe that he doesnt have the proper tools to even check the pump timing. I think that may be part of the problem here - sometimes the redneck way doesnt work so well.

the timing is set at 16.5 had a local diesel shop set it. if it were timing then why is the #3 cylander running 60* colder then the rest of them? someone told me today that bacause the rings on the third piston are from a different place then the rest mabey they are differnet material and the 3rd hasnt seated yet. it has blowby but i dont know how much is to much

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i guess i will know more after i do a leakdown and compression test on it saturday

Forgot you had that done.

Will be interesting to see what the leakdown test tells you.
