sort of a quick check to see if there is a draw is to put volt meter on your batts and start pulling fuses. seein how it draws them down that quick and you said that your guage was all over the place sounds like the intake grid heater relay is causing you your headache. good luck and hope you get it fixed.humm:

if you havn't blown any fuses i would almost guarantee that you have a bad connection that bad a short would send your volt gauge to minus hell the lights would almost go out but without a meter you are shooting in the dark. it may be something complicated that the cummins experts on this site can help you with but i doubt it. there is a ground to the block or frame that you can follow down or just your hot leads coming of the battery. you can test the alternator coming off the hot lead in the back of it it should put out thirteen plus. this is all basic stuff and not meant as 99 cummins specific directions but i am probably right.

could easily be, that heater makes it bounce alot, however with the recent battery change that sounds suspicious

im wondering if its not just a combo of things, bad connection to batteries plus the heater. earlier today, i felt the intake after it had been running and then sat for 30 minutes and it and the heater were warm, like very warm, i didnt think anything of it at the time but now that im sitting here and rackign my brain, maybe that is the problem.
