Hard Starting
Hello everyone... Im new to the site and enjoy reading all the threads. I have a 96 dodge 2500 5.9 12V cummins. When i got the truck it always didnt crank the best in the world. It would spin over alot before it would crank. Lately its been getting worse. If I put my foot slightly on the accelerator it fires rite up.. Any ideas of what is going. I have ordered an EGT gauge and wanted to know where is the best place to install the probe. Any suggestions?

What does it idle at? Should be 800 rpm in gear.
Have you ever replaced your rubber fuel line? Theres 2 at the tank and 2 in the front.
Welcome BTW...

The best place for the thermocouple is pre turbo:
You should get yourself a boost guage as well - they are around $40...but you can do it for cheaper if you dont want/need a lighted guage.

There is really no stupid questions....everyone has to start someplace.
The adjusting screw is on the back of your injector pump - look at the link I posted for you - explains it all in depth.
I would suggest having an extra person. You move the screw with the truck running in gear (emergency brake on). The person can tell you when your are close. This makes the adjustment easy.

nope you can do it right on the truck have someone there with a shop vac to suck up the metal chips. Then run a magnet down the hole after its tapped.
