Unhappy timing case and ticking noise

Ever since I have had the truck it has leaked oil and had an odd ticking noise not really that loud though. The other day i was under it wiping the crud of the gear case and I found a crack in it. If the crack isn't t bad can the case be fixed somehow or do I just need to find a new/used one? Also it has a weird tick kind of sounds like manifold gasket or valve adjustment. Has any body heard this before? the oil is pretty black so i guess its getting some blowby. Could this noise be coming from piston slap? sorry about the long post but i need help!

How can I check to make sure that is in fact piston slap. If it is where is a good place to find pistons im debating on putting marine pistons in.

Cummins carries all the parts. A lot less than the dealer in fact.
