Still sorting stuff out...
I've still be struggling with fuel issues, last night my truck died completely...it took me what felt like an eternity to finally figure out that the fuel filter bleed valve was loose and I lost all pressure...Anyways, that's a different story, and it's fixed now.
I went to the Wreckers today to look for a module or switch that I could use in my truck, but Pick N Pull only had one '01 Silverado there and it was picked clean.. only thing left on it was pretty much the body and dog hair-covered seats.
I'm thinking tomorrow before the superbowl I'm going to get a multimeter and start pulling panels off the dash to get at the switch and see what I can do. I should be able to just bridge a wire rendering the off switch ineffective...if only I knew how the circuit was set up... I took electrical courses in engineering but man I'm rusty.
I should have it done soon. $260 is such a waste for something so simple, there's no way I can allow myself to get the dealership to do it.

You need to find a different inspector, that isn't such a wiener. My Canadian destined F-series DRL's are off in park/neutral, like someone else in here said.
And by the way - the lights only have to be on when the vehicle is in motion.
DRL setups are not different in the states, most trucks just don't have it
Also, you can buy something like this: DRL Kits - Automotive Products - Hamsar Diversco Inc.,
They work fairly well, and power the headlamps the entire time the key is on, and it's easy to disable after your inspection should you wish to do so.

Cool,
Yeah I might try going somewhere else, the fact is the truck HAS DRLs so I don't see why they'd be so picky about an off switch...

Well, tried taking it to a different location, seems like Canadian Tire is the only place in Calgary that does Federal Inspections according to the list the RIV sent me....
Service managers alway volunteer to do the inspection, so again my chances of bribing were 0...couldn't budge the guy on anything... So now that that failed and the fact that there are no repair manuals available anywhere for the 2500HD and up series... I'm starting to get a little pissed off... I also went to the GM dealership, and they can't even find a part number for the new-style tow mirrors that came on the '05, '06 body style before becoming standard issue on the '07+ models... As far as the parts guy knew, they don't exist... Oi...
I was thinking of just getting the Haynes repair manual for '99-'06 GM trucks and use that for the wiring, but everything else in the repari manual will be kind of useless considering there's no info on anything drivetrain related... Still got 16 days...

You could take a switch and run it into the one of the two wires (on the same side of the bulb coarse) and just have the switch in a disclosed location. Just a thought. Never tried it before.

OK. You need to take apart the relay that activates the DRL. Wedge a toothpick in the relay that forces the relay to close the contacts (may cause the DRL's to stay on all the time). Option 2, wire across the bottom of the relay (hidden of course) that causes the DRL relay to activate or be bypassed for the duration of the inspection. You could try to run a wire between the fuel pump relay (Yeah I know that it doesn't do a darn thing) and the DRL relay. That relay should activate during the key on cycle. I will have to look at the fuse block in my 04 to see, but I think that the fuse block is different in our trucks.
Do they want the DRL's to turn off when the headlights come on??
If you want the wiring diagrams for the truck try GM UPFITTER - Publications look under light duty. I got the sheets from there and they are full of more info than you probably will ever need.

In the document from the link you posted for my truck, there's info in the MBEC (mid bussed electrical center), is that part relevant to the necessary modifications? I can't seem to find any actual wiring diagrams on the GM upfitter page.
Thanks a ton for the info!!
