Theres no drain on the tank - if you want to empty it you have to drop it, remove the fuel pickup module and pump it out.
I already gave you a link for the fuel prefilter. It might be helpful to read all the responses you get.
It does sound like bad fuel. Good luck with it.

Also, if I drop the tank, are there any hoses I should replace while it is down, just as a precautionary measure?

Do you happen to know what size and length they are? I wan't to get all my parts together so I can do this with the least amoung of trips to the store as possible. Thanks man

Yea that's true, I was going to just pump it out from behind the filler neck, refil with clean, and clean screen...and hope that did it. But If that doesnt do it I will have to drop the tank anyway. So I've decided to just do that from the start....that way i can try to at least clean the tank..purge the lines...nice new clean fuel. and new lines...and Hopefully my truck will be reliable and good after that.

Sorry Ryan - I was away today...yes, there are 2 hoses at the tank and its a real good idea to replace them. The supply should be 3/8" and return is 5/16". Use only diesel rated hose (not the general stuff for gas). I cant remember off hand how long they are but if you get 3 or 4 feet of each that should be plenty.

Thanks,
I am going to assume they are 3/8 & 5/16 ID hose. Also how do I know that a fuel line is rated for Diesel. Will it say it on the hose or do i just have to trust the kid working behind the counter?
My biggest problem is that i have a full tank right now, and Am going to have to try to drop it.
Are there any other hoses I should replace in the process if i am going to have my fuel system apart?
and the feed and return lines on the tank, they use standard hose clamps?
Thanks so much for all the help

All right so here's where I am at. Dropped the tank today, and it was awful. Cleaned it till there was nothing at all in it. The fuel lines that attach the the fill and return. the plastic clips were broken. and cracked off...so I took them completley off and just used fuel hose to connect from the fill and return lines on the tank, to the frame rail fuel lines.
I changed the filter, and closed it all up with 10G of fresh clean Diesel. I primed the filter bowl with fuel before putting it on, cycled the fuel pump for a few cycles, then bled from the front banjo
It kicked right over, sounded happy with clean fuel, then it died. It's not getting fuel. When I open the bleeder valve there is a lot of aerated fuel pumping out. Lots and lots of bubbles.
I am assuming that it is pulling air into the line somewhere, any idea where? I think it would be the fuel lines that I had replaced but I put them on deep and clamped them pretty tight.
Any suggestions guys?
ryan

well process of elimination...............check every connection ya have
I would go with all new line (rubber fuel rated 1/2" hose) if it were me, while at it I would do the banjo bolt upgrade and also a drawstraw in the tank
