the engine oil cooler is actually mounted in to the block i saw one being replaced some time ago,i belieave it on the passenger side under the manifold into the block, theres usally a trannyheat exchanger mounted under the manifold but being a manual you shouldnt have one, maybe one of the guys here may have a diagram showing the oil cooler, theres gotta be a diagram somewhere around here showing it, they run about 100 bucks new,

if th gasket or the oil cooler is bad? it sounds exactly like the ford that the oil cooler went out in at work. i would put money on that being bad. if u werent so far away i would say swing buy cause i still heve the old one out of my truck that is still good. or was when i took it out.

was it the one that is mounted to the block? i have almost everything off the engine to pulle the head only thing left is push tubes, rockers and bolts holding the head on i dont know what to look for on the oil cooler being bad

the oil in the coolant is a real good sign. if no water in oil then i would bet on it. u dont have to pull the head to get it out, its on the side of the block. as far as testing the oil cooler idk how u would do it honestly.

pull off oil cooler plug one side and hook up to it w/ air and add about 20 to 40 psi and stick it in a bucket of water or take it to a radiator shop and they can test it for you, to get all the sludge out go buy a large bottle of cascade dishwasher detergent, and you will have to flush it warn it up , flush it , and re do several times untill it comes clean, oh and theres no lines of any kind leading in or out of the radiator [thats old school cooling crap] pull the oil cooler and make the repairs and get back on the road,

Best thing to do is go get anew one to be on the safe side, and dont pull the head its not the head gasket! Use lots of cascade(the powder only) and it will clean right up!

ok guys i got the head off and replaced the head gasket but havent put the head back on yet, i tested tho oil cooler at 80psi and no leaks under water, gasket looks fine but replaced any way
