Default 2002 Golf TDI, Accelerating Issue

My golf all of a sudden stopped accelerating sharply. I revs up alright but has a slight delay at the top before revs fall. Like it has air in system. It happened right after I replaced the brake light switch. My wife was driving. she said it just lost power and the eccelerator wasn't working. After I got it ,it would run alright but pedal was spongy. It still has plenty of power. but revs hang. any clues on why? 84000 miles I've had it scanned with no issues showing up.

My guess would be a bad brake light switch. V-dub is notorious for bad brake light switches. I think this the 5th design. It sounds like the EPC/ASR feature is kicking in. The system gets a signal from the brake light switch to cut power and aid in braking & de-acceleration.
