Hi all:
I'm new the forum and I've been having an issue with my transmission running hot. I've look through the previous post and saw a few very good suggestions but non have worked for me so far. Here's the issue:

I have a 2007 dodge 5.9 with the 48re transmission with a deep oil pan. I have a Edge CTS programmer and a few months ago the trans temp reading went up between 20 - 30 degrees (2008 -212 degrees - normal driving). My normal temp was around 185 - 188 degrees. These temps are with no load. Outside temp around 105. I generally pull a 13K fifth wheel trailer and I've only seen these temps when in heavy traffic, in town going extremely slow speeds. Here's what I've done so far:
1 - had the fan clutch replaced - mechanic said the fan was not keeping up to speed. Dodge OEM fan. It was pricey!
2 - disabled the trans cooling fan thermostat and flushed radiator - was a solution found on this forum (thanks) but did not solve the problem
3 - took the truck to a transmission shop thinking I might have a torque converter issue - no problem found with the trans.
4 - purchase an IR thermometer to confirm the trans. fluid temp. in the pan - temp was within 10 degrees (IR +- 2%) of what was displayed on the CTS No issues with engine coolant temp. Cooling temp stays between 197 -200 degrees max.

Not sure what I should focus on next so I'm looking for other suggestions and HELP! I'm getting desperate to solve this problem since I have a big trip planned for next month. Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.

 

To me it sounds like your tranny cooler it plugged.
Not getting any air flow or proper oil flow.
replace it with a bigger aftermarket one

 

chopforeman...I appreciate the reply but I did flush the oil to air trans. radiator and it flowed well. Unless your referring to the oil to coolant radiator?

Do you know if dodge makes a larger trans. cooler radiator? It was suggested by a friend that I replace the stock radiator with a ford 7.3 type radiator. However it would required making some type of new brackets etc.

What's your thoughts on adding a powered aux. cooler in line with the stock cooler?

I am talking tranny cooler these trucks have a tranny cooler on them I bet the air flow is poor.

 

i think a aux tranny cooler would be a good idea.I am thinking of installing one this winter in my diesel.

thanks chopforman...I'm looking into the possibility that I have a bad trans. sensor? I'm also getting a quote to get a powered aux cooler installed. I'll keep you and everyone who read this post know how I make out.
