Hi, I have a 1989 ford f350 7.3 idi 4 door dually. Ran out of fuel, so added 5 gallons to rear tank still wouldn't start then starter locked up, so replaced starter. Replaced fuel filter and lift pump. Tried to start and all I'm getting is a drip drip drip going into the fuel filter and when I took the filter off it was only half full that took several several cranks to achieve.

 

Ya might wanna check your fuel tank selector switch, and your fuel tank selector valve. Either one could be faulty. Also, if there is any section(s) with rubber fuel line, check to see if theyre old and cracked and check the hose clamps. While your at it, check and make sure your fuel line isn't leaking somewhere or rusted out somewhere. My dad had an 87 ford 7.3 idi and had the same issue. Turned out to be a small section of fuel line had rusted through. Easy fix. Hope this helps.
