Default limp mode

Okay thank you guys!!
I also have another question my truck keeps going into limp mode. Ive changed the map sensor, all the sensors on the trans and it keeps doing it and it has a new injection pump and tps. Could a bad injector be causing it? When I start it up is when it does it and it will blow some white smoke doesn't matter if its hot or cold outside, until the truck warms up. When it warms up it wont do it.

I would pull the injectors have them pop checked so you can see at what pressure they are opening and if they are leaking. The ECM can't monitor the injectors themselves but does control IP timing.
Do you have EGT, boost and fuel pressure gauges? how's your fuel pressure?

I agree with jet, if your limp mode is lost of power and your puking out white smoke(fuel injected at wrong time) and these symptoms goes away when it gets warm(when parts expend from heat), it's got to be injector related. And they have to be pulled out and bench tested at a injector or fuel system shop. But if the symptoms are constant it could be wrong timing on the vp pump gear, but let me ask, is this vp pump have to be timed when installing a new one? Because definitely looks like it. Just curious I'm use to the common rail and others but not this one.

Hey Kyle, I just want to make sure I understand your truck situation more.

So I understand that these are symptoms that your having when you first start the truck, with the white smoke and the lope or rough running engine, but does these symptoms carry on even when it's at normal engine temperature (over 150F) or will these symptoms go away or won't be as bad but still there??

If I know this can really help and narrow it down.

Just thinking again! your new vp44 pump, did you install or someone else did it? And did this problem started before the installation or right after the installation or hours/days after the installation?

No after it gets to running temp it runs fine. The limp mode, white smoke, and lope is when I first start the truck. And the guy I bought it off of was a diesel mechanic and he put the vp44 in right before I got it.

The check engine came on so I had it checked and it showed a po217 code witch is coolant sensor malfunction for high temp. could that have anything to do with the truck going into limp mode?

So this far, the vp44 timing is not an issue. But as for the code it will definitely go in limp mode. So does this code stay on when you first start the truck? Do you have a tuner display? You can use it to see what the ect is, and if it is out of whack when the engine is cold then it can definitely create the symptoms but strange that it goes away once it's warm though. So if the temp is out of whack, changing the temp sensor may be solution but should make sure the wiring is good too
