Sudden loss of power 03 cummins
Yesterday while traveling on an interstate with mountain grades I experienced loss of power and surging and exhaust detonation on grades of 5% or more. On flat and slight grades it runs fine. I stopped and got a new fuel filter which didn't cure the problem. Could I have a boost leak? The truck is bone stock with 41K miles. I bought it new and it has always had plenty of power for towing. Any advice I could get would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Will

first get it scanned, is it a vp44 fuel system or cp3 system, they changed around that time, any smoke, i had one that when you worked it, it would act up, it was an inj issue. fill out your sig. hopefully someone else will chime in here. good luck pt
Hey thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what fuel system it is. It turns out it was some dirty injectors, probably from the last fuel I bought. I got a new fuel filter, drained the separator and got the injectors cleaned out and it runs fine again. In the process I found a good diesel mechanic that does good work at reasonable rates, so its all good.
