Default 6.9 IP timing smokes

Hi, I just installed a new IP in my 86 van 6.9 . It starts up but smokes heavy. If I remove the oil fill cap it smokes out of there to. Could I have miss the tooth alinement by a tooth? If so how do I correct it without pulling the front of the motor apart? Please help.

Chet

The 6.9 would be a ford so you may want to post here for better response.https://www.dieselbombers.com/ford-8...-7-3l-general/
