Default Transmission cooling line leak

Newbie owner of a 1999 2500 with automatic transmission and 300,000 miles. She's ugly but runs. During my drive home my buddy followed me for a couple hundred miles in his white f350. When we stopped for fuel the front of his truck looked spattered with oil. Upon climbing under my dodge, I noticed drops of transmission fluid on the spring lock connections on the cooling lines. To make it home I cut the spring lock side of the hose off, pushed the rubber hose as far as possible onto the metal line, and installed a hose clamp. Damn thing still leaked near the shoulder on the metal line. Walked to a hardware store and purchased a tubing cutter, cut metal line and reinstalled hose and clamp. No leaks this time. Topped transmission off with two quarts and all seemed well for the rest of our trip.

Upon closer inspection of the spring-lock fitting and metal hose, it became apparent that the o-ring and spring lock side of the equation was good. The metal hose however had developed a leak where the spring tabs rode on the shoulder of the metal tubing. The flange or flare on the metal tubing was actually formed from two pieces of tubing that where probably formed by pressure. A little wear and the seal was broken.

Just thought this might be useful information to someone.

Btw-wife is unaware of recent purchase. LOL. Does this happen often?
