Default another new guy

I'm new to the diesel world so bare with me. I just recently purchased a 97 12 valve with an automatic. Pretty much stock other than a little pump adjusting. I've started hearing a knocking noise while driving. Usually about 1800-2200 rpm. Sounded like a valve out of adjustment. I adjusted all valves and no change in sound. I took it a diesel repair shop and they said I have a bad injector. Now my question is if that would cause this noise. If so how big of an injector can I use with stock components. Any help would be appreciated.

i don't recomend you upgrade the injectors yet since your motor is basicly stock. That will cause you're egt's to go up.
