Default Newbie tryna get a good cummins, Help?

So i'm new to the diesel world and i wanna know what i should do first with the truck im getting. It's gonna be a 1987-1991 k5/jimmy and i wanna go diesel. i'm thinking that ill start off with the stock 6.2 but i want to go cummins with it. i heard there excellent engines and they have great power. One problem though, when it comes to diesel engines im clueless, so could you give me some insight here? i Heard a 5.9 would be an easy conversion but if i want more power to try an 8.1, but i have no clue what to listen to and how to do it, so what engine would be best (its a project so i want something cheaper but well worth it) and how would i do all the conversions? I warn you im knew so if you could keep it more to a simpler side i'd appreciate it, thanks

Putting an 8.1 in a half ton rig will be much, even a 5.9 is near 1K lbs.The wieght of a cummins and the power of one have left stock Jimmy convertions with torn up front and rear axles on their first 4x4 outing.Lots of work to be done rite, but so is everything.

personally I would go with a 4bt if your planing on using the rig, nothing like trying to flip a flop back over with a rig that has 1000 lbs under the hood. it will give you all the torque you want and much better economy.

sounds like you have alot of planning and part chasing to do... good luck
