Default 2002 duramax ADVICE/HELP!!

Hello,
My name is nick, i have a 2002 chev. PU with a duramax that has been diagnosed with bad head gaskets. So i am on the fence, whether to do them myself, or pay someone whom i dont know to do them. I am leaning towards doing them myself, but, i have limited diesel experience. I come from a family of 60's and 70's vintage chevy's so i am comfortable around 283's,327's 396's, and even a little mopar stuff. So i am hoping i can find somebody here who is willing to share some of the best of the trick to do this job myself, and not sell off body parts to pay a dealership.
Thanks!

welcome to the site! replacing the hg's on the duramax is alot like the gassers only with more parts to reove and put back in place. make notes, take some pics, clean everything, take your time and you'll do just fine. if your going to be pushing the truck to high hp #'s like 600 and up, this would be a good time to install head studs.

how exactly was it diagnosed, might be something easier to do like a lifted injector cup maybe? not saying that isn't what it is just don't know the history.

Well I was hoping for that too, I have a distant relative who is a GM laid off Mech. He did the diagnosing for me.......I keep having my "LOW COOLANT" light go off so i chack the res. and its empty. The top hose is rock hard and stays like that even after cool down. Then I open the cap and the coolant rushes back in. From what I have been reading online(also the diagnosis) points to the good'ol HG(probably d/s rear or p/s front)

YOur biggest issue to gettin to the heads is gettin all the intakes and everything outta of the way, after than your good to go. just make sure you torque em right.
