I can't give you particulars on Ford myself, but I bet several folks on here can. BUT make sure you post this question in the Ford section of the site also, just to make sure you get the best answers out there, they don't all look through here.

Default I'll give it a shot.

The 01 is one of the best years of the 7.3 and with that low milage i would not be afraid of that price either. Might look it up on NADA to find the retail value but that doesn't sound bad.
The 7.3 is bullet proof with the exception of the Cam Position Sensor - get one for 50 bucks and carry it in the glove box - and a 10 mm socket so when it goes out, your not dead in the water. If you don't have a spare you will be dead in the water.
If your lookin for big HP and Torque, the 7.3 is capable with the right mods but more expensive to find that HP than a newer 6.0.
The tranny is the weakest link in that truck IMO but again, with that low milage, shouldnt be an issue for awhile.
Sounds like a great truck amigo!

And Welcome to DB

No sure, no problems with these. Theres no lift pumps on these babys...HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) injection system like the 6.0s The HPOP can develope oil leaks but those are $2.00 O-Rings. One other minor issue that developes with these is the wiring harness for the injectors, its under the valve cover and they are sometimes known to rub and cause a break in the wires. realatively easy fix and inexpensive and usually won't happen till 200k miles. I'm more familiar with the 6.0 but they have basically the same fuel system.
