Hey all
I recently became the owner of a 1985 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.1 Renault turbo diesel engine in it. This started both my jeep ownership journey and my diesel ownership(as an adult, anyway. I drove VW dashers and rabbits that were diesel as a kid) journey.
I joined a jeep forum or 2, and quickly found I cared more about the diesel aspect of my jeep than the jeep aspect(not that i'm knocking Jeep or the XJ platform). Don't get me wrong. I love driving this little thing. But if someone gave me a gas-powered XJ, I'd give it to someone else.
But I love watching my boost gauge spool up, and hearing it in the engine as I'm driving. I enjoy the 21-23mpg I get(though I can't help but wonder if there is more somehow) driving it everywhere I go as long as its not the freeway.
But there isn't a very wide knowledge base for this obscure engine that I've found in any jeep forums. Which led me on my search for community here. And this may not be the best spot either, as that Renault engine isn't a common engine. But that is also why I am here. I am contemplating installing a MB OM616 in it if it ever dies, and there seem to be a fair amount of knowledgable people on that kind swap here.
So here I am. With my weird little diesel-powered Jeep.
I also have a ford Ranger that I want to put a diesel in too. For no other reason than i think i can.
And I have a little onan-powered tractor that i a would like to convert to diesel at some point as well. Because if I can, why not?
So thanks for letting me join and glean some knowledge and experience from you folks here.
Well I'm on one again. I bought a 91 Mazda b2600i with a blown head gasket .Turns out it's a cracked head too. I was looking at various transplants, including getting a Mazda diesel from overseas.
i decided to find a bellhousing from a 1987 Mazda b2600(NOT a b2600i) so I could bolt a Mitsubishi 4d55t up to it.
It's been some learning, but I'm THIS close to having the engine in the Mazda.

Here's pics of my daily driver for now, since this seems to be the only thread I can post in(any other thread i start i still waiting for mod's approval...)
I've tried to start 3 threads over the past week. All are still awaiting approval.
guess I'll have to look for another forum where people can actually post.
