New to me 99 Suburban 6.5TD - SoMD
Hey guys,
Fairly new to diesels, but not to cars and trucks in general. No expert, but have been into cars/trucks/motorcycles since I was young. From the Southern MD area and just bought a sweet 99 6.5 Suburban with 146k original miles. Work Truck package and really clean for it's year. Came from the south so not a lick of rust underneath. Slight surface rust on the bottom of the doors and rear tailgate, but nothing like I've seen in others. Bench front and second seat...has mounts for 3rd row but no seat which is ok. Rubber flooring which I love, easy clean up with 4 kids!
When I bought it, the visible things done to it were PMD relocation with heat sync, K&N CAI, and an aftermarket Pioneer CD player. It pulls hard and is super clean.
Batteries died the first cold start morning about 2 days after I bought it. 16 degrees outside and it didn't like it. So, bought 2 fresh Group 65 batteries, converted to top post, and crammed them into the stock locations, changed the oil and filter, cleaned the intake and all the intake/turbo boots and hoses, and did some engine bay cleaning overall. Installed louder Wolo horns because the stock ONE horn was embarrassing. Installed 09 manual tow mirrors. Found a set of nice set of OEM 09 Silver Aluminum 2500HD wheels with 305/70 M/T's for a killer deal, installed them and love them. Minor front lip trimming needed, but zero rub issues. They only have about 5000 miles left on them, so going with A/T's next.
Future mods:
4" Turbo back/no muffler - not too sure which brand I want, but Diamond Eye keeps popping up.
Either AAL or 2" block on the rear - Want to keep it fairly stock so no ridiculous lift kit for me. It has a slight rear sag to it right now...don't know if it needs new shocks or someone previously cranked the torsion bars.
2" hubcentric steel wheels spacers for the rear - The GM narrow booty stance is hideous.
Heath ECM tune with supporting mods.
So, it's a work in progress, but I love this tank and it's a real rare combo which I really love. Just need to clean up the interior and when it stops snowing and the roads aren't covered in salt, wash and wax her up.
Hope to learn a lot more about my truck in here.....
Thanks!
