Default mercedes 617 oil filter relocation

I am currently installing a 1985 300sd with 617 diesel and automatic transmission into my 1975 Toyota Chinook camper. I have made the block off plate for the engine and the plate that will attach to the oil filter housing. I have noticed that there is a small impeller that protrudes from the oil filter housing that seems to be spring loaded. From what I have seen from other postings they seem to make the plate from flat 1/2" aluminum. It seems to me that this impeller would wear against the plate. This impeller does not seem to touch anything in its original location. Am I correct? Should I relieve that plate in that area to duplicate the oirginal location situation? Any information on this would be helpful.
Thanks
Chinook

Are you looking at the oil filter housing you removed ? If so I think your looking at the relieve, diverter valve and that is not an impeller. it stops oil returning to the oil pan when engine off.
IIf you are needing more room the 1981 Mercedes engine has a smaller oil filter assembly.
