You can use mechanical gauges for boost, egt's, temperatures, etc. but you cant have the speedo, odometer, tach, and warning lights without the factory cluster. I guess you COULD install as many gauges as you can and then use the Edge monitor for speedo, tach, and a few warnings.

they sell mechanical speedometers that can read from the transmission VSS on most transmissions, NOT CHEAP i might add, but they are out there......you can hook a tach anywhere that turns, just got to be innovative and figure out how to get a reading from it.....I NEVER SAID IT WAS EASY BUT IT WORKS......oh and who even uses their factory dash cluster???? dont everyone buy a spare one from the junkyard, it saves ALOT of money on trade-in.............

Theres a guy over at DP that transplanted an LB7 into his wifes Suburban. So far that last I heard it was working flawless with no issues.

Yeah, that would just be the hard expensive route and be a pain in the . Installing a crank trigger system isnt cheap either especially when you already have the signal coming off the databus. Technically, yes you could completely eliminate the factory cluster but it wouldn't be practical and still wouldn't allow you to see the warning lights. As far as buying a spare dash I dont see what your accomplishing with that. I certainly dont swap my clusters trying to cheat on the mileage. You also have to have a Tech II and to program the cluster to the truck and it has to be within the series of numbers that your existing cluster came from. I'm speaking about the DMax of course. May be different for the CTD and PSD.

The guy at DP did his a couple of years ago. As far as everyone knew he was the first one to do such a transplant. If it was covered in Diesel Power is very well could've been his rig.
