4.5 L Duramax for half ton is here !!!!
General Motors has just announced a new 4.5L V8 Duramax turbo-diesel powerplant it plans to use in the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra half-ton pickups, as well as the HUMMER H2. The new oil burner is expected to produce at least 310 horsepower and 520 ft-lbs. of torque. It features dual-overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, a variable-vane turbocharger and aluminum cylinder heads with integrated manifolding
This could make the diesel world totally skyrocket and take the majority from gas engines eventually. I have heard dodge is doing this soon too. I couldnt get to the link does it say when this should be availible?
when and whats it gonna be yaknow??
This package has potential to take us to the 30 mpg range judging by some of the conversions ou there.........I am concerned with the V-8 configurations though..................Cummins 3.9 4 banger can get low 30 mpg though

the "big" 3 are planning a light duty diesel for their 1/2 tons by the turn of the century. they're also planning to offer one in atleast one of their sport-utes too.
i think a diesel in a 1/2 ton should atleast see low 30's on the highway for say a 2-wheeler with highway gears.
