Are they putting that Urea crap on it or the DPF junk they are using now? Did they mention anything about the emissions controls, and what they are doing to make it more fuel efficient??

I haven't read anything about the emisions equipment as of yet for the 6.9, I only know the 4.5 duramax will have Urea injection and a DPF.

Yes, but my husband gets in trouble all the time with the truck he has now!!! I can only imagine how much our insurance premium would go up

I'll clear this up for everyone right now.

I am a GM tech and for the longest time I too thought that Izuzu was making the Duramax motor. I was sent off for training in late July and came back with a whole new perspective. Izuzu DID help design the intial prototype motor that was NOT the 6.6, instead it was a 7.0 Duramax but had the same basic design. After many different tests and real life test models GM decided to make it smaller for fuel efficnecy and in doing so they also increased the hp and tq on the 6.6 so that it was more than the 7.0. Izuzu agian helped design the 6.6 but they never ever ever built a single one. ALL DURAMAX MOTORS WERE BUILT BY GM!!!! At training I did see the first Duramax 7.0L and it was a beast, it didnt make much power but it had potencial. Also while i was down there they rolled in a 6.9L twin turbo 6 speed Allison Duramax and let us peak around. I cannot tell you for sure if its going to be twined of large single turbo thats beyond the info that i have right now. Hope that clears things up for you guys.

I have been trying to tell people that for along time, frankly I think a lot of the dodge and ford crew do not want to give GM any credit for building a lick *** diesel. Times have changed, Cummins and Power Stroke aren't the only diesel power in a light truck worth having anymore.

I'm not gonna brand bash, what I am going to say is that I love diesels and I think all big 3 are good trucks and they have there ups and downs. I personally like the Cummins the most and then the Duramax and then Powerstroke. Just my opinion.

Now for the sake of my job i cant tell you all the details of the 2010 Duramax because it is not out yet and because I dont know too much about it because GM is hiding that stuff even from its techs. When I am trained on it I will give you the full scoop inside and out of the truck. I have seen the prototype first hand and it was a urea injection twin turbo dpf egr machine. The engineers said that it would exceed the 2010 emissions requirments and produce more power then the rivals. Now thats what they said so dont kill the messenger. None of us got to drive the truck but the engineers did and it almost sounded like a 7.3 just quieter. Should be interesting, I'll keep you guys posted as i learn more.
