that's going to replace the LS1 hotrod engine swaps for sure! I'm excited about it. maybe I'll have to get one for my '62 Nova gasser, that'd sure **** some traditional guys right off!!!
for the 1/2 ton trucks, I hope they don't choke it down so badly with emissions that it's barely more economical than the gassers. the LS1/2 is a good engine platform, with the difference in gas/diesel price, a good gasser vs a choked diesel is theoretically not very much. I'm excited that they're FINALLY introducing 1/2 ton stuff and wish the american market could see more car/small truck diesels.

kinda weird how the turbos are pretty much IN the lifter valley...seems like it'd work out pretty good as long as they get the heat shields/baffles right. It's about time there's a diesel in the 'burbs again, always seemed like a 4x4 diesel 'burb was a substantial F.U. to the vans/minivans, while being more practical for a smaller family than the excursion.

This is exciting news folks—and arguably some of the most important engine news to come out of GM in years. GM will introduce an all-new 4.5L V8 diesel for the 2010 model year for their light-duty full-size trucks and for the Hummer H2.
Here are some key points:
• This is a 100% in-house GM design, and not engineered by Isuzu.
First of all I am not trying to start a peeing contest. The main reason I purchased a 08 Duramax was because it was designed by Isuzu, Who is the #2 diesel mfgt. in the world. They have been building these diesels for 40 years. Being "100% in house GM design" doesent impress me to much by looking at the Detroit 3 today. This "DESIGN" is the reason they are in the trouble they are in today. IMPO they cant design anything to get around the block. Honda, Toyota, and Nissan Have kicked their butts in design and quality and the Detroit 3 sat on theirs and let it happen. Why was congress so slow to let them have a loan? They too know what kind of crap they design. Read Consumers Reports and you will see what I am talking about. I dont care what another one buys. At 62 I could not wait any longer for Toyota or Nissan to put a diesel in a truck. If they had had one I would have bought it. Every time I get in the 08 I wonder not if but when is something going to happen. I myself would never buy a diesel GM designed. Look at the 6.5. Look at the trouble it gave. I think the only thing GM has going in their favor in the Duramax/Alison and the Cummins in the Dodge. Ford,I wont even go there. JUST MY .02 WORTH. LOVE YA"LL

You sure are a negative person, I think the AMERICAN trucks are better that the JAP trucks.
