Hey ben, I know you said you aren't much into customizing but if you want an afordable diesel pickup you should consider swapping a 3.9 cummins into something. They get really good mileage, sound like a first gen cummins, and have cummins torque.

Yeah but what would I put the 3.9L Cummins in? My Regal might fit it as it was originally designed for a 3.8L but mine only has the capability for a 3.1L engine.

if you want to stay gm a lot of guys put them in the mid 70's to late 80's trucks. Those can be found for under $1000. The p30 step vans that were converted to the 3.9 cummins had a turbo 400 trans which also came factory on a lot of those chevy trucks. If you want overdrive you can find a 700r4 pretty easy as well. I know a guy in Ohio that sells engines with the chevy adapter for $1700 so basically all you are missing is a set of engine mounts, the right torque converter, some easy wiring, and some new plumbing. Can be done for around $5000 depending on what you want to do.

So am I. As soon as I can sell the dodge(bought it for the cummins) this is what I'm planning on building as well. If you get serious about a 4bt you should cruise over to www.4btswaps.com

I wish GM would have gone with the Cummins instead of the 6.5L from the start.

Yeah that would have been nice but GM owned Detroit Diesel at the time. But at least now they have the dmax.
