I have had 3 Duramax equipped trucks.
03 Ex cab SB 4x4 with D/A I loved the truck and never had any problems with it. It traded it in for my 07.5. The reason I traded it was because the cab was too small for my growing family. Plus my wife hate the droan of the exhaust I put on it.
05 CC SB 4x4 with D/A. I also loved this truck. Never any problems other then the typical steering shaft clunk which was fixed. It was perfect for my growing family until the NBS was introduced and I had to order one. Which I also traded this truck for my 07.5.
07.5 CC SB 4x4 with D/A. This is my favorite of all of them. I have no complaints about this one (nor the others) but the cab is silent, you cannot hear any wind noise, the engine is strong. I do not plan on trading this one in unless something happens that I need a mini van.
I searched and did tons of research on all the big 3 before my first purchase in 2003. I chose the Dmax for the ride, the interior, and power train. Not to mention I have a FAN # from GM so I get really good pricing. I have never owned a diesel before these so I cannot compare them to actual experience of other brands.

Got 3 LB7's, my LLY and one LBZ in our fleet. 2 LB7's over 200k, one with 150k, mine has 44k and the LBZ has 75k.
All 3 LB7's have had injectors, waterpumps and 'pump rub', all else is maintenance. Mine's been great since I fixed the overheating with a Rad Mod V2 and the LBZ has been unstopable since day one.
