Default should i buy a 2009 or 2013?

Question is in the title. I'm either getting a ltz 2009 or a work truck 2013. What are the differences between the 2 years? What kind of fuel mileage does each year get? And what kind of difference does the def make? It will stay stock for a year or two before I start modding it.

the DEF crap is just one more thing to fill up adding to the cost of driving it. So along with filling up fuel, you will need to fill up your DEF tank as well.

If it was me: I would get one without all of the emissions garbage on it...

My thoughts too. Although I've heard that it takes a gallon per 1000 miles? I could live with that. I found one today a red 2013 Lt. With a lot of options and the dealer that has it will sell it to me with $8800 worth of rebates. Its within $500 of the 2009's price. I drove the 2009 yesterday. The d.I.c said it was getting 14mpg. On the 2013 it said 17mpg. I got both to 65mph and set cruise the get those #'s on the dash. Their not mine yet so I can't put fuel in and drive them long enough to do the math to see what they actually get.

And does anybody have a programmer in these 2 years? I have a edge in my 2008 5.3 I like it but It really doesn't make a big difference in it. And I want something to mount on the dash. Looking at edge juice with attitude and looking into bully dog.

EFI-Live is supported on both years and will hands down be the best tuner available

I don't know about the duramax, but I know the cummins is having issues with the new DEF system...

heard several cases of them failing within a couple thousand miles.

If you live in an emissions/inspections free area, I would get a delete tuner and run with the 09 truck and delete the EGR and DPF. I wouldn't want to deal with a DEF system at all...that's just me though.

I'm sticking with my emissions free 24v cummins came from the factory with no EGR, no cat, no def dpf or any of that garbage. and with my smarty tuner I can seriously detune the motor to get my huge injectors through emissions even with it hazing at idle

confuses the hell out of the emissions tech because it hazes at idle, but they rev it for the snap test and no smoke! They're sitting there like

so they pass it and soon as I leave I reflash the ECM back to stock and get all of my power back .

Thanks everyone. I've decided to wait for the 2015's with the new inside style. Everyone says they'll be coming out at the end of 2014. I might try for the new high country too.
