have the Z71 package on my truck with right at 18000 miles. Rear tires are almost completely worn. Can feel rear end shudder when turning at slow speeds - can really feel when backing up. Had a '06 2500 with a gas motor and a limited slip rear end - never had any issues. Have had it into the dealer 2 different times. First time the replaced the fluid ni the rear end with their special fluid. Second time pulled the cover, inspected and still state no problems. Wondering if anyone else is having similar issues, or is my truck "special"?

 

I never had the factory tires on my truck that long, but I get about 50k out of a set of Toyo MT's. This is probably stupid but are you rotating them properly?

My daughter has a Chevrolet Cobalt SS, her car came with the Pirelli tires, they only lasted 12k miles and hers were rotated properly. Sometimes, I guess you just get a bad set.

 

No mileage guarantee from the tire manufacturer? I've not had tires in the past few years that didn't come with at least a 40K warranty (providing proper inflation/rotation).

 

My dealing with Pirelli on my daughters car was that there was no "warranty" just a mileage that one should expect. When Discount replaced the tires they did not even give us a $1.00 credit on the tires we bought.

I think the warranty is more of the retailer more then the manufacturer, but I could be 100% wrong.

 

My Michelin's at least have been from the manufacturer. I can't say I've owned any other brand tires on my cars, trucks, or motorcycles in a while. I know some stores also provide their own warranty, but they normally require you to do adjustments/alignments/etc at their place so often.

 

Theres alot of factors for tire wear. Do you tow alot, drive on gravel roads alot? Could be a bad set of tires. I know I went through a set of cooper at's i belive they were in 17,000, i went threw a set of nitto terra grapplers in under 15,000. Now i have had a set of hankooks on for 35,000 and they are at 50%. And all have towed alot and never done burnouts

 

only some tires actually come with a mileage warranty. depends on manufacturer, size, load and speed rating. on cars like the cobalt ss probably had a V or equivelant high speed rating......equals softer rubber compound. very few AT tires have an actual treadwear warranty, most have a mileage rating. some will have warranty on 8 ply and then not on the 10 ply. depends on the tire though. at the retail level, most stores will offer a road hazzard warranty for flat tire repair, at an extra cost per tire, of course.
