Default Programmer for Mileage?

My dad just bought a 2008 Chevy duramax for like pulling trailer on long hauls, and me and him noticed that it gets terrible mileage pulling vs. his 04 dodge diesel. I was wondering if theres any kind of good programmer or chip to put in his duramax to help out his mileage. Its fine for power. He wants to leave everything else as close to stock as possible tho. Any suggestions??? Thanks

425 views and not 1 post? is this site a ghost town now or what? did nobody have a recommendation for this guy? the problem you are going to have with your lmm is the dpf eats fuel during regen and lowers your fuel economy drastically, Banks makes some legal tunes that should increase your mileage without removing certain smog/federal equipment. and intake and dpf back exhaust is recommended for those.

the problem is that this site has a lot more Ford and Dodge guys then Duramax guys. there are only a few of us helping out the Duramax guys so some of them get missed.

as for power, economy or drivability nothing beats a custom EFI Live tune.

Open that puppy up. aFe Cold air intake, MBRP exhaust 5" and a good tuner since your wanting to gain more MPG's then I recommend you go with the Duramax Duramileage EZTuner. This company actually guarantees you'll see a change. They stand by their products 100% and will put their money were their mouth is. Or like one of the guys said above, Efi Live is another great option, if you got the $$$ for tunes.

Yeah, well I'm glad I am apart of this site now. I deal with them all. Every diesel has their issues. I'm a 19 year old future student of NADC. I've been studying diesels since I was 14 years old. I know them like the back of my hand. I always sit here take notes, and pound everything I need to know about these new engines. Because I am soon opening my diesel shop in Crossville, Tn. So I gotta haha.

Bully dog has some good tuners If he hauls alot id try efi live so he can unhook from a trailer and just flip it to fuel economy and go back to stock or whatever tune you want on the go.
