The common rail 5.9 Cummins get around the same gas milage and run near 300hp stock if that means anything to ya to. I also got a buddy with 01 with a 6 speed and an Intake, 5in Stait exhaust, Edge Max Milage Chip and KN air filter and we had it dyno at 294 hp and he gets 26 high way

26 hand calculated? but you see like brightwhiteram said, you cummins guys have to do exhaust, intake, chip, cold air, and all that to even see 300hp. dmax only has to get efilive to get those numbers and more.
it usually sees 450-500hp with little to no issues. mine has only had a fan clutch sieze up but that can happen to any engine anytime!

Yes hand caculated. All diesel now adays are all cold air intakes its all personal prefrence. Ill take a cummins over a duramax or powerstroke because of milage, reliability, engine longivity, and ease of repair. I dont know exact numbers a duramax get for horse power and torque I know duramax is 300hp or so and 450 ftlbs or torque(2003) ford had 250hp with 435 and cummins 215(auto) 235(Standard) horsepower with 440to460Ftlbs or torque this is off of my head I can be a lilttle off and these are for 2003 trucks I wont touch Diesel pickup after 03. I dont know much about duramaxs engines with exception I despise them unless Im racin some one then I love em Like I said ot all personal preffrance and what your goin to use the truck for, I haul all the time and drive on the ranch so the truck has to be as good as the engine.

The duramax stock intake is actually very good, and flows more than enough air for an engine that makes 500HP at the wheels

You can race me anyday..... 360hp/650tq stock... and Im not stock and I will still get 20mpg these duramaxes are just as reliable as any cummins, once again your point is invalid and I would like to thank you for playing

I had an 05CR cummins, trust me I know what they are like and it didnt hold a candle to my Dmax for power or MPG

i will race you anytime ranchhandtcr! , and i will get better mileage. i have personaly had a cummins, didn't hold a candle to the dmax's power and mpg! sure the cummins probably could have pulled more but i don't need to pull anything that heavy anyways!

plus my cummins left me stranded a lot more than my dmax has, had to change a lift pump and injection pump on the side of the highway once! bad auto trans another time, broked input on the nv4500, lift pump again (it was a fass),
dmax fixed.....fan clutch. and it still got me home.

My 01 gets a steady 15, sometimes dips to 13 if im hard on the truck or plowing snow, but i also good sized wide tires, and constanly run the truck with the DSP5 set on kill.

My 06 gets 15 commuting to work and as much as 23 on the highway, i run it primarily on the mileage setting, but it doesnt seem to change much on the higher settings. I got around 18 before i tuned it.
