Default low fuel rail pressure

I am having some trouble fixiing my truck. I just got my 07 dmax back from the guy i sold it to. He told my it was time for an oil change and was a while since the fuel filter was changed. Well like a dumba** i was in a hurry and forgot to prime the filter and fired the truck up and ran it out of fuel. Now i get a eng code of 0087 low fuel rail pressure. even when i detuned it still fell on its face after a few seconds. This truck has always been modded( s&b filter, diablo sport tuner, and 4" strait) and never had this problem. I talked to a guy that was telling me i needed a positive pressure pump but the excuse he gave me was not applicaple to me and my truck. He was saying that some of these trucks cant move enough fuel when tuned eventhough i didnt have this problem till the filter change and my crainel rectal invertion moment. One person told me i just have air in the lines and will eventually bleed out on its own with a few miles. Well that didnt work because since i have put at least 2000 miles on it in hopes that was the case.( keepinglead foot in check) I then tried the pump and high point on the front of the motor. Got a few bubbles then nothing but diesel and still acting up. I did read some of the forums but couldnt find one the fit my problem. please tell me its not a major problem and can be repaird pretty cheap.

Have you cleared the code? i would say that you may have some crap in your fuel lines still. i would run some injector cleaner thru it and see what happens. it shouldnt hurt it to run it and not prime it. when i was new in the diesel world i did it a couple of times. its just like any other engine, when the fuel supply disappears the eng will stop running. granted it can do a number on your pump cause with out fuel running thru it, it could get too warm and possibly cavitate, but thats not too likely. so i guess, go out an try to prime your filter and see if it is holding fuel pressure. if not then you have an air/fuel leak somewhere else (i had one on the WIF sensor on the bottem of my filter) if its holding pressure then the injector cleaner should clean up some of the grime out of your eng. course low pressure could also mean 1 of 2 things also. 1 your pump isnt putting out enough fuel, or 2 it is putting out enough fuel but there is nothing to cause pressure to build so your truck is just dumping fuel into the eng. IS YOUR TRUCK SMOKING ALOT?
