Default Newbie W/ Serious Problems...Oh Great

hi everyone, first of all i'm totally new to turbo diesels, so bare with me.so problem is my egt's are crazy and spike in about 3-5 seconds up to 1400+ at halfthrottle.rollin down the highway on 37" tires i'm between 900-1000 on the pyro.when u try to accelerate the boost jumps up to 30+ psi but you dont feel any acceleration, egt's jump/spike as well.no check engine light codes at all(0401(low egr circulation )a couple times but thats normal from the edge programmer i think?this is in stock mode and level 1 and 2.i dont dare go to level 3.also i noticed when i had my exhaust unhooked at the manifold to see if it lowered the egt's(it didnt)at somewhere above 20 psi boost there was a horrable screaming/barking noise?i'm guessing its the variable vane controller not allowing all the boost into the motor, but still putting it on the guage(trapped psi, but the sensor is located in the "trap" somewhere?does this make any sense?pls help dont want to melt my motor.so how do i check the turbo vane actuator?thanks guys

well with your truck being so big it takes more effort to get it moving and keepp it moving, my truck usualy sits anywhere between 600-900 when im cruising on the highway and it only has 33's for tires and no lift.

the p0401 is from the truck being straight piped. you should look into a finger stick and egr blocker and also look in to re-routing your pcv.

Your egts do seem higher than normal but the engine itself can sustain about 1300 all day while towing, and also ur trck is bigger than normal. and dotn unhook your exhaust at the manifold it really messes with the flow.

are you planning on adding a boost gauage?

oh yeah and

I have to weigh in here, and this is just a suggestion, but could the EGR be blocked? or could he have a build up causing a blockage in the intake as a result of the soot that has made it into the intake because of the EGR?

First thing is you can get an EGR Blocker and fingerstick from almost ANY of our great vendors here.

As for your boots and pyro, where are the sensors located? Is your boost tapped into the cast IC pipe right next to your airbox? Is the Pyro tapped between 2 cylinders on the exhaust manifold? These are very important variables that can help determine your issue.

If your vane acutator is having problems, you would definately get a code IMO. I cant see boost being "trapped" so to speak. Have you checked to make sure the EGR isnt blocked already?

Oh and

x2

i think the edge doesn't require you to tap anything for boost, it picks up up already when you connect the harnesses from the box.
you can go here to ask for a price quote on a finger stick and egr blocker

how much smoke is it throwing out

the boost is read through the map sensor on those trucks i belive. But the EGT gauge could but bad giving you a false reading, the little color sock that i had on my gauge held my neddle so it read all screwed up

boost guage is built into the attitude monitor(uses stock sensor wherever that is)and the pyro sensor is in the pass side manifold under the rear most bolt on the littlte flat spot where everyone says to put it.and i've double checked the pyro guage and sensor.yah 300-400 at idle.i've got the 0401 code twice after flooring it for a second but not lately since this problem has gotten worse..
