Default 05 Duramax 2000 rpm shut off

a buddy of mine has a 05 Duramax and every now and then it will get to 2000 rpm and just shut down. it has fuel power and acts normal until it hits the 2000 rpm wall. he has changed fuel filter, and still does it. it also has wont start on occasion. Every body just keeps telling him fuel filter. the truck just hit 100k miles and is a allison auto 4x4. Any body have this problem or have any ideas i could give him?

My 04.5 LLY did the same thing and came up with P1093 low fuel rail pressure during power regiment (sp). When this happens, I know that the ECM goes into fail safe mode and limits the speed to exactly 65 mph and wont allow the motor to turn more then 2000 rmps. The ecm will do this for several different codes though, so it would really help to have the codes if the check engine light comes on.

i'm not sure if the pup can show any codes, if not, have him go by a parts store like napa or autozone and borrow a code reader to check for codes. then repost with codes found.
without this info, its like hunting for a needle in a hay stack

Put a fuel pressure relief blocker in it. Issue solved.

yeah sounds like the EGR is clogged/plugged up with soot, I believe there are deletes or "plugs" that make is so the EGR doesn't work which is a beneficial thing rather than a bad thing, probably gonna need to switch tuners though, Bullydog isn't the greatest, they are OK but i'd be tempted to go with a PPE or an EFI live setup of some sort

Yes there are plenty of people who make an EGR delete kit. They are DEFINATELY one of the first thing you should do to an LLY especially a modded one. It recirculates soot back into your intake manifold making quite an ugly mess, especially if the PCV has not been relocated also.
