02 duramax heads up??
my uncle just recently bought an 02 duramax 4x4 with an edge attitude, and i was wondering what he should watch out for and, how often he should change oil and filter and if there is any particular filter he should run, adn same about fuel filters, it has 180,000 miles automatic, he is using it as a farm truck to pull gravity wagons and the animals, and tractors sometimes, thanks in advance for the input, and help guys!!

ok so for filters i would stick with fleetguard or Wix or AC delco(these you can find great prices at Home - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks)
I change my oil about every 6000-8000 miles depending on how i use it, I use Chevron Delo 400 synthetic, and when i change my oil and oil filter i also change my Fuel filter and transmission spin on filter as well
If it at all starts to smoke white that means that the injectors may be damaged
and if he is using the edge he should make sure to dial back the power when he is towing because the transmission wont take the abuse, if he builds it up to make it stronger he should have no problems
any other questions just ask, thats why we are here

okay thanks, it has a tow setting on it, will that be good for tow or should he just use the stock setting, i heard that about the injectors and i looked at it and noticed it has a bosh fuel line along the the passenger side head, is that stock or aftermarket? and thanks for the heads up! greatly appreciated!

the entire injection system on the duramax is made by bosch, CP3 pump, lines, injectors and everything in between
the tow setting is probably OK but be warned that if it starts to slip or flare or limp then it will only be a matter of time before it needs to be rebuilt, if he is going to tow heavy it is probably a good idea to turn it back to level 0 or 1
a little bit of info as well, the allison is an adaptive transmission meaning that it will adapt to certain driving styles, and when you change the power output of the engine the transmission needs time to re-adapt to the newfound power, and it needs to do so moreso when you add a lot of power, say going from level 0 to level 5, it needs a lot of time, so if you drive it normally for say a week before getting into it, it should help quite a bit
another thing that should be said is that he should probably not go past level 4 if he wants the trans to last, level 4 is 90hp, which really is about the limit for a stock allison to take for an extended period
