Default Sierra 2500 HD rear axle bearing/seal help!

Finally got the two rear rotors off to finish a simple 4-wheel brake job, now driver side emergency brake shoes are soaked with oil. Any advice on the axle bearing/seal job before I start it in the a.m.!? Will probably do both sides. Have 185,000 miles. Thanks, Tom

Thanks, looks simple! On assembly, is it a standard bearing adjustment, or are they torqued?

I checked the GM shop manual and it torque to 52 ft/lbs. Loosen and re-tighten to 0 ft/lbs or finger tight.

I changed one side on my 2500HD and it was simple... I'd tackle it again at any point with confidence... the front hubs are sealed and even easier than the rear, just fyi... good luck man... p.m. me if I can help walk you through something...

U can't ask for a better right up than that... it is pretty much exactly like this right up... no hidden problems, etc... It will be just like this... Good luck man and thanks to trueperf for that link...

Seems like everything went well. Needed new rotors, naturally. The bearing adjusting nut came off easy, seemed loose! But the tool I bought didn't fit the nut and couldn't torque first properly on assembly. Used a rubber mallet to tap the hub on. Didn't like the key reaining clip that clips in the threads. Have 1% uncertainty that the hub might not have seated properly. Will get a better tool and check again. Thanks

That nut - i just tightened it back up as tight as possible with a mallet and set tool and then backed it a percent of a turn until the key stock could slide back in... It seems like i read that somewhere - that's why i did it that way... I don't have that tool either...

Glad to hear you got it... When i replaced mine, i had my rear axle and hub pulled three times in about 12 hours due to the truck being my only ride to NAPA...
