Where to purchase replacement FICM?
Hello everyone. I've been an avid reader of this forum, and others, for a long while, and many of your threads/posts and articles have really helped me out over the years. However, now I'm in need of actually making my own thread/post to ask for some specific help.
My truck (2001 Duramax) wouldn't crank the other day and 2 different GM dealers tell me it's the FICM (each diagnosed it). I just can't afford what they want to replace it, so I'm wondering if any of you may know where I can buy a new or remanufactured replacement for much less? I am mechanically competent to replace it on my own (I've seen it done, plus I have read the articles on doing such), so no worries in that department.
I've seen a few used ones on the various Duramax forums for $1xx to $2xx range, which would be great if I could get my hands on one of those, but haven't seen any that haven't been sold already, so still looking.

Okay, my bad everyone, but it looks like I jumped the gun. It's more than likely the ECM (aka PCM, part #9388505). I'll know for sure tomorrow, however. Sadly, the '01 Duramax was the sole year for astronomical ECM price.
Regardless, here's some info for those that may need an ECM or an FICM (or whatever) in the future:
2001 ECM (powertrain control module) part #: 9388505
MSRP from GM: $1,765.81
gmpartsdirect.com & gmpartsonline.net sells them for $918.23 new (both have an insane shipping fee, however).
2001-2004 LB7 FICM (Injector Module) part #: 97720663
MSRP from GM: $1,132.85
gmpartsdirect.com & gmpartsonline.net sells them for $824.72 new (both have an insane shipping fee, however).
One can find either of the parts above through various members or vendors here on these forums, or Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market (database of salvage yards across the US), or eBay, for $100 to $400 range.
The dealer probably won't like it, but I'm going to bring them a used one, and let them program it in with their Tech2. If I was in Alabama, my partner's shop has one I could have used for free, but oh well.

Passkey Security Relearn Procedure For LB7 & LLY:
IF YOU ARE INSTALLING AN ECM WE FURNISHED THEN YOU MUST FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE ONCE INSTALLED TO START THE VEHICLE: (this is not applicable with your truck's ECM)
1. Disable your headlamps. Attempt to start the vehicle. Vehicle may or may not 'fire' and quit. Some vehicles will not engage the starter. This is normal. DO NOT TURN OFF KEY YET !!
2. Leave the key in the "on" position, until the 'security' light goes out or quits alternately flashing between "Security" and "Battery". This relearn period always takes 10 minutes. How long does this take? 10 minutes. How long do I have to wait? 10 minutes.
3. After security light is no longer displayed, shut the key off! Wait 5-10 seconds and repeat the above procedure (steps 1 through 3) another two completed times for a total of 3 start-relearn-attempts, remembering to shut the key off between each 10 minute relearn procedure. THIS WILL TAKE 30 MINUTES--NO LESS. If the 4th start attempt fails to start the vehicle you did one relearn step (or all of them incorrectly). If you left your headlamps on until the battery went dead and voltage dropped below 10.5 volts, no amount of relearn attempts will be learned!!
Don't read too much into this. Most people cannot seem to grasp the simplicity of this relearn procedure.

I never heard of a crank relearn before
I know when u swap ecms out u just have t to that security light thing.

Yeup, it's the ECM (no communication). They also verified power/ground for me to rule that out.
Part # is 12210729. If you or anyone has one, lemme know. I've seen them on eBay for $275, and on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for as low as below $100, but most in the low $100 range, all the way up to $5xx (hell, a brand new one ain't much more than that).
Furthermore, you'll think I'm a dope, but it's a 2002, not an '01. I knew it was (maybe I had too many beers last night?), but the one dealer wrote down the wrong year, and I was just typing off of the paperwork they had given me. It hit me this morning, so I double checked my insurance, as well as my VIN # on the truck, and sure enough, the 10th digit is a "2". It's tough getting older, LOL!
