Default Repairing a bed-side?

2001 Dually.

I decided to take a 1"x3" chunk out of the inside of the wheel well.

Is there any way to patch this stuff or otherwise get it repaired for less than the $1,700 I keep getting quoted for a whole new bed side?

if its just the wheel well than weld in some new metal and grind it smooth then have the bed lined with rhino or whatever

Look on craigslist. I found a complete bed in perfect condition for $500 bucks.
