Can anyone tell me the best way to remove the balancer bolt on a 2001 duramax?

the way i removed it was to take out the starter and stick a 1/2 extension in the flywheel hole to keep it from moving and used a 3/4 drive breaker and a 1-7/16 12pt socket only because i couldnt find a 36mm 12pt socket. and 66 inches of cheater bar. heres some pics:

Default Or

You can take the rad intercooler out and use a good 1/2" impact
Thats how I do them even though I have the flywheel lock tool
Oh yea I forgot Use heat on the bolt to burn the Locktight out

On other vehicles I have installed the breaker bar agains the frame rail and bumped the starter. But you have to MAKE SURE that is the correct rotation for loosening that bolt.

Also couldnt you just remove one of the inspection holes on the trans and wedge something in there?

Those water pump directons were great! I used them a month ago to do mine and like it says better eat your wheaties for that bolt! The 60" plus cheater is a must!

I just joined but never got to thank 2500HD for putting that on here, Thanks Man!
