Default FUEL GAGE SITTING WAY PAST FULL

FUEL GAGE SITTING WAY PAST FULL, THE SENDING UNIT IS NEW BUT NOW THAT I BYPASSED MY FUEL RELAY BY PIGGY BACKING MY LIFT PUMP TO A SWITCHED FUSE ON MY FUSE BOX. DO I NEED TO JUST REPLACE MY FUEL GAUGE?

IT reading way above what it should means it is reading too much current.. I think sending units are measured in ohms, resistance.. So maybe it is the wrong sending unit? like maybe one for a bigger tank? Or maybe you have bad wiring somewhere? Did you double check everything and check to see if the new sending unit looked exactly the same and if it was an oe replacement?

it was working fine until I cut the 2 lines to the lift pump & wired the ground to the battery & put a fused piggy back into the fuse box, so the lift pump is now run on the fuel solenoid fuse in the box. Could that do it?

I had the same problem a while back. I disconnected my lift pump and got the same result, the fuel gauge goes to read WAY past full.
What I ended up doing was leaving all original wiring intact and pretty much just ran a jumper from the positive side of the connector and ran it to a relay that gives power when the ignition is turned on. Fuel gauge seems to work normally for me and the lift pump works great. Maybe this could work for you?

I would have done that but there was no switched line, only a continual line of power.
