Default 6.2 won't start

After repairing the injection pump cover (thanks for the help), I tried to start the engine today. I ran a fuel line with priming bulb from the lift pump to a container of fresh diesel. I bled the air out of the square filter in the firewall. I have one injector line disconnected, and only a drop or two of fuel has dripped out during about five minutes of cranking. Both batteries are new and charged, and I was using jumper cables to my car to keep the batteries charged. This truck has not run since before the motor was rebuilt about 5 years ago.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Robert

Re-tighten it, then try and start it again. IP won't build pressure with a line disconnected.

See if they got a gear reduction starter. They hold up to longer cranking times and draw WAY less amps.

already have a gear reduction starter. the only unused parts on the engine are the lift pump and injector pump.

I bought a terminal but decided to leave it alone for the night. I'll start again in the morning when there is light outside.

Repaired terminal. tried starting again for over 5 minutes. No luck. checked that glow plugs were working. injector pump is getting power while starting. How can I tell if injector pump is bad?

Check and make sure both solenoids "click" when you add/remove power. Also, make sure that you crack an injector line, then re-tighten it after 5 seconds of cranking. Alternate sides to. Takes a bit to purge the air out of the pump.

working on it.
when I got this engine back from machine shop, it came with boxes of parts, some mine, some not, some missing. So this has been a big jigsaw puzzle for me (without having a picture to go by.)
I just realized that the injector return line is not installed. would that keep it from running?

It won't. But what'll do, is make a mess without it. What's worse, there are hoses that come off of #1 and #2 injectors and tie into the line. If they're still there, your in luck and all you need is the steel line.
