6.5 is 16V. First why are you wanting to change the engine? It's going to take a lot of money and time to go to a Cummins. In all reasons it would be a lot cheaper to buy a Dodge with one already in it.

but then you have a dodge, i like the 6.5 but if you want a cummins its probably better to put it in a chevy and not have to deal with dodge problems.

Well c here is the prolbem im dealing with. The block is cracked i know that, so either way i need a new engine. If i put a new engine in it, it is gonna be a redigned one so i can put some power to it and not have to worry about realiblity. But for a new engine its like 7g and i can get a 12v for only like 3500.

Ether way you go you are talking about a lot of money. The new 6.5 may be 7g but to put a 12v in it will be more than $3500. Just besides getting the engine you have to get it in the truck which pretty well takes a complete reconstruction of the front end. Then you have to get a trans attached to it. Most people I have talked to that have done this swap say you will have after the engine 10-20k in it.

Do you have the engine out of the truck and seen it cracked or are you suspecting it is cracked? If it was me I would ether get any 6.5 put it in it and send it down the road or get a late 6.2 or early 6.5 (599) block and build it like heath does. They run over 500 hp to theres and don't have any problems with it.

2muchjunk is right, 3500 for an engine is not a good reason to drop a 12 valve in it. You will have much more invested in it until you are done, at least what a new 6.5 would cost. I'm not sure what all is involved for a 12 valve swap, but if you love chevy and really want a cummins, then do it, that may not be a good reason, but its a better one than, I think I can save money.

Some things to think of:
You will need a transmission, nv4500s run from 500-2k depending on where you source it
Dodge automatics leave some to be desired, and that route is not free either
The extra weight will require a realignment at the least, a beef up on the stock suspension wouldn't hurt any
Motor mounts, I believe you can buy them from somewhere, or make your own, not sure what kind of equipment or skill set you have to work with
X-fer case, need one of them unless you adapt a gm trans to it/use a gm nv4500 and change the bellhousing and input shaft.
Change the tranny and x-fer case you need to consider driveshafts and front differential, which side is the dodge diff on.
Best solution, buy an old 12 valve junker and use it as a donor, take the front suspension and axle, and mounts.

Most of all, what is your time worth, will you enjoy the work, that is what makes it worth it. If you have to pay someone to do it, there is no way you would save any money.

Also, not sure where 7k comes from, you can get a rebuilt from dieseldepot for under 5k, cheaper if you get a 6.2 replacement for the 6.5 and just change over the manifolds and turbo.
