is any black smoke coming out of the tailpipe? you might have air in the fuel system still so if you have electric pump you can prime the system really easy or contining cranking but you might kill your batteries and starter that way.

 

No black smoke, all white. The batteries are from 2004 so they are close to being gone if not there already. I tried draining water out of the water separator but all I got this time was the sound of air.... Think you might be right about air in the fuel lines. Piece by piece I am replacing parts, ie filters, glow plugs, wiring, etc. We will see....... Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. Even if they don't all help I am definitely learning a lot.

Did this engine ever come back to life?

 

Ive been on vacation so I havent been able to play with it but I am back now so I should be able to try it this weekend. I will let you know as soon as I know something

 

I am happy to say that I got the truck running. Using new clean fuel, getting air out of lines, some fun wiring and a lot of pissing and moaning got her to run. First time it fired it inly ran for about 15 sec before dying second time same thing. Third time it started right coughed, then idled down and began to purr. I took it for a test drive around town and all seemed to be ok.

I do have a question about the glow plug relay though. I hooked up a manual set up just like crazy's write up but the factory relay will cycle on and off without me using the switch. Also the relay clicks on and off three or four times for about the first 30 sec when I engage the ignition. Any ideas?

I was going to finally drive it home but through all this I never checked to see if the lights work and guess what....... all the lights work except for the headlights. I'm hoping its something as simple as a fuse but that will have to wait till next weekend.
