Default ac belt. neccesary? 6.2ltr 1983 chevy

I have an rv with a 6.2ltr diesel with an aftermarket turbo. I live in California and have to go through donner pass a couple of times a year. This heat the engine to a dangerous point. When I was changing the belts I noticed that the ac belt isn't there. Some people I have talked to say that this is sometimes done to reduce the load on the engine. I want to know if by having this belt off my water pump isn't getting enough belt attention. Will putting this belt on help with the engine heat or hinder. Thanks for any help.

Probably not change anything. When the compressor is disengaged it pulls almost nothing and just as long as there is a belt on the water pump it should spin fine.
