6.5td turbo overboosting?
heres the question. i have a 94 6.5 td which is all stock to my knowledge with the exception of a mandrel bend crossover, 3in down pipe to a 4in stack, and a pod filter. i run somewhere around 18 to 19psi at full throttle. from what i've read, this is a tad bit over stock. Is my factory boost controller not regulating the pressure? or is it chipped? thanks for any help.
a stock 6.5 turbo is supposed to push anywhere from 7-9 under decent amount of acceleration and 1-3 while cruising around 60. Maybe check a wastegate accuator just to see if it is stock. Also the solenoid and vacuum pressure. a larger wastegate would most definitly allow more boost. But chances are it wouldnt last very long untill lag started to build. Although on a electronic 94-95 you need a power chip to raise boost and add fuel. unlike the 92-93's you could jsut adjust the manual injection pump..
so if i had to guess it is chipped. i would definitly look into that before your start messing stuff up which could cost big bucks..

how do i tell if it is chipped? and a pod filter is just a universal air filter. the vacum system appears to be stock, and i have a boost gauge. i made a manual boost regulator the other day just to nip the overboosting problem. i have it turned down to around 10 or 11 now.
do you have access to a tech 2 scan tool. you can tell how much fuel the truck is requesting. max limit on stock egr equipped trucks is 56mm3 of fuel and i think f code trucks are 68mm3 or something like that. how do you regulate boost with vaccum system hooked up without messing with the computer
i don't have access to a scan tool, but i'm trying to find one. all i did with mine is put a vacum cap over the stock line that went to the blowoff valve actuator. no codes have popped up besides the ones i already had.
no blowoff valve on these trucks just a wastegate. once you plug up your vaccum line to he wastegate you have no way of controlling how boost the truck makes unless you put on a mechanical wastegate. put your vaccum hose back on and see what type of boost your running
reason i plugged off the vaccum line is that i already installed the manual boost controller, sorry, i forgot to mention that in my previous post. i've got it turned down to about 11 psi at full throttle. the truck runs alot better
